You hear that a lot around here. Citrus County Florida has over 20 area golf courses and each one is more prestigious than the last. Golf Digest Magazine has ranked five of the Citrus County golf courses in the top 100 courses in the United States.
Some of these outstanding golf courses include Southern Woods Golf and Country Club, Black Diamond Ranch, and two courses at World Woods (Rolling Oaks and Pine Barrons). Southern Woods Golf and Country Club is located within Sugarmill Woods, a pristine, deed-restricted community in the town of Homosassa, Florida. Southern Woods was nominated by Golf Digest Magazine as the “Best New Private Course” the year it opened.
Just south of Citrus County, in Brooksville, is the World Woods Golf Club with its two challenging 18-hole golf courses. World Woods is known as a world class practice facility and was nominated by Sports Illustrated Magazine as "the best range in the world". At World Woods, the Pine Barrons course advertises “The final five holes could be the toughest stretch in the South.” Pine Barrons was ranked 9th in 1999. Additionally, Rolling Oaks was ranked 63rd in 1999.
You cannot discuss golf in Citrus County Florida without mentioning Skyview at Terra Vista, and the Citrus Springs Gold and Country Club in Citrus Springs, the Dunes Golf Club at Seville, and Sugarmill Woods Golf and Country Club in Homosassa.
